This non-fiction book provides an overview of the Kinmen Islands in Taiwan. In 13 chapters, I cover topics such as history, culture, travel tips, sights, and everyday life on the islands.
Kinmen is arguably the most Chinese part of Taiwan, not only geographically, but also culturally and historically. Located just a few kilometers off the coast of China, the islands occupy a unique position between Taiwan and China.
Therefore, this book goes far beyond a typical travel guide. It is aimed at anyone interested in Taiwan, China, and travel in East Asia who wants to explore Kinmen from historical, cultural, and social perspectives.
About the author
My name is Ferdinand Kunz, and I have been living in Taiwan since 2023, spending most of that time on Kinmen Island. That same year, I founded the travel blog and YouTube channel Traveling Kunz. His first project was the video series “Kinmen Travel Tales,” in which I documented the island’s history, culture, and sights.
In 2026, he published this ebook, which is also available as an audiobook. His goal is to introduce Kinmen to an international audience. Therefore, all content from Traveling Kunz is available free of charge.
