About Ferdinand – the Host of Traveling Kunz
In 2023, Ferdinand Kunz started the travel channel with his name in it. However, he was bitten by the travel bug much earlier. I share some details about myself on this page, but I fully understand if you find that boring. You can just jump directly to the channel on YouTube.
How Ferdinand Became a Backpacker
Ferdinand was born in the south of Germany and took it upon himself to travel the world. At the age of 19, he left his job in retail and started his first backpacking trip. In 2008/2009, he went on a longer solo tour through China, Vietnam, Laos, New Zealand, Tonga, Mexico, and the USA. At the time, it was normal to book a hostel via email and then take notes on which bus to take and how to walk from the bus station to the hostel.
The young man faced many challenges but also learned how to overcome them. He met people from all corners of the globe, an experience that made backpacking as Ferdinand’s preferred choice to this day. Additionally, our traveler came to realize the incredible blessing and privilege of being able to travel freely.
But of course, the young man had to face the music and earn a living. After almost a year of traveling, he returned to the country of beer and potatoes. Between various jobs and studies, he was lucky to explore several countries. Ferdinand spent longer periods in Denmark, Estonia, and Central America, but the most important location was Munich in Germany, where he lived for more than eight years. While he traveled a lot, he had no intention of producing videos or becoming a travel vlogger. But Ferdinand realized that he hardly looked at all the pictures he took during his journeys.
A Unique First Trip to Taiwan in 2018
Ferdinand visited several countries in Asia while working in Munich, but no travels impacted his life as much as the trip he took at the end of 2018. The Portuguese called Taiwan “Ilha Formosa” when first noting it on their maps in 1542 — the beautiful island. Our traveler was not only impressed by the country itself but went as far as bringing some of this beauty back to Germany. A brave Taiwanese girl joined Ferdinand, they married and since then they travel together.
While Ferdinand has traveled to a long list of countries, he has by far the most experience traveling in Taiwan. The simple reason is that he and his wife decided to leave Germany.
Moving to Kinmen in Taiwan in 2023
Our couple spent two more years in Germany, but in early 2023, it was time to make a move. Ferdinand followed his wife to Kinmen Island in Taiwan. When Ferdinand visited this small group of islands as a tourist two years earlier, he would have never imagined that they could live in such an amazing place, but it happened.
Searching for a way to document the island, our traveler came up with the idea of a video documentary. Not only was this format more suitable for this special place, but it also marked the birth of the first YouTube playlist, ‘Kinmen Travel Tales‘. Without experience or skill, Ferdinand started his video production journey. Initially, he just wanted to produce a few videos about this amazing island.
The Traveling Kunz YouTube Channel is alive
Quickly, Ferdinand realized that he prefers watching his travel memories in video format rather than looking at pictures. Thus, he became more invested in his channel. New playlists such as ‘Exploring Formosa’ and ‘South-East Asian Sojourn‘ have been added since then. Our traveler also is trying to improve his video shooting and editing skills.
Ferdinand remains committed to his travel vlog, using his free time to produce more content. However, note that this is primarily a hobby for him, and he does not aim to become a professional YouTuber. Ferdinand is always open to feedback and enjoys meeting new people, so please feel free to reach out. However, he is not interested in products or services related to growth hacking or similar areas.

Ferdinand spent most of his life working for tech companies in the B2B sector, holding various PR and marketing communication roles. Future of the Travling Kunz
Ferdinand aims to continue traveling and hopes to be able to shoot videos while doing so. However, like many hobbies, this is a free-time activity, and circumstances can change.
Even if there are longer periods without videos or if the channel has to be put on hold permanently, Ferdinand is still grateful if people enjoy his videos.
